2008 Athlete Development Camps
How to Qualify:
Contact us. Collegiate athletes are encouraged to attend also, and do not need to meet any qualification criteria other than being a USAC member with the physical ability to race. The camp is open to any rider ages 13 and up who is physically able to ride epic trails and compete under race situations. The is not a camp for those who might be interested in beginning the sport. A history of competition is vital, and the ability to complete mountainous rides on consecutive days with the groups is needed.
If a junior athlete raced in any 2007 LAJORS or regional mountain bike event (AMBC, NMBS or any other large event) after June 30 and placed top five in 15-16, or 17-18 categories, that athlete is automatically qualified to attend any regional development camp in 2008 and should have already received an invite via email (by Spring 08). If you feel you should have an invite and did not get one then contact us.
USA Cycling has an automatic qualification system for regional camps based on USA Cycling race results and rankings.
OR qualification is to just contact the camp manager, you may register at the camp with prior approval.
This years camp will be more like a training camp, so expect more riding and more training. Athletes should arrive at camp with a level of fitness that allow them to ride and train several days in a row.
The National Championship happens soon after the camp, and the camp dates are an ideal time to pack in intensive training to ramp up fitness for this event.

Weather
Brevard can be a temperate rain forest at times. Although June is typically a drier month be prepared for the occasional afternoon shower.
As we are in the mountains it is not unusual for the temps to drop and bring cool weather. Be prepared; have one set of cool weather riding gear.
At minimum have arm and knee warmers, a cycling under shirt, a vest or jacket, eye wear and gloves.
Watch the forecast to see if full length tights and top might be needed.
This camp is a qualifier for the USACycling National Championships held at Mount Snow VT in July.
The top 6 riders from the camp earn an invitation to the race. Scoring is based on the time trial and the short track race.
Depending on athlete turn-out we may extend invites past the top 6.
Post-camp
A great time at the NC camp for 2008. Lots of riding and perfect weather.
Pics for 08 camp are here as well as TT times.
Everyone was great and did well. We could see the improvement in the riders skill level and their drive to better themselves as riders.
To the left are pictures from the Brevard College
and the Colorado Springs Camp.
